Vir-Go sit yo ass down it doesn’t mean anything…

Birthday month is over! I met most of my goals for August which means I’m writing/recording much faster than usual. It’s a pace that I’ve always wanted to hit and now I get to maintain it. It’s why artists like Lil B are so interesting to me; seems like dude writes/freestyles the second he gets an idea. Sometimes they’re funny and catchy, sometimes they’re a little more serious, sometimes none of that. But the point is that he’s not holding any of it back. Combined with something I heard Rick Rubin say regarding songwriting (when he’s right, he’s right…). Basically, an idea has the most energy/excitement when it first comes to you. The longer you sit with it, the weaker that energy gets. Obviously there’s tons of value in sitting and refining an idea; but you’re never going to feel as inspired as you were at the beginning.

Anyways, I’ve probably talked about this same thing 10 times now haha but it’s always on my mind. RPM, 30 Day Songwriting Challenge, etc. is just me trying to force the ideas down before I second guess myself. With this in mind, the next mixtape (tentatively titled “Practice Hours”) should be out by October. I’m still stacking beats and forcing myself to write when I don’t wanna.

What else…the homie reached out a few days ago saying their friend needs a guitarist for this Friday, so I said sure! I’d love to give a recap of how it goes, preferably with some video/pictures. It’s only 5 or so songs, total neo-soul/R&B vibes. I’m always a bit intimidated by that scene even though I haven’t had too many mishaps. Thankfully it’s hella jazz-y or I’d be sweating right now. Figuratively. Literally, I’ll be sweating regardless; it’s over 90 degrees all week. Yay -_-

Stay up and stay tuned. Zip it up and zip it ouuuuut.
