Runnin’
Runnin’ behind! The theme of these past two weeks. I just wanna rattle off some things on my mind at this moment. Raiders are 1-2 and this past game was UGLY. I’m getting some mixes from Paul for the Let It Go tracks and they’re sounding great. Re: the guitar solo for Defeat Me, I got a draft together over this past weekend. For me that just means knowing where you want the solo to ebb and flow along with recording some phrases that feel good. I can never make a firm decision on what guitar tone I want to use. It matters so much more when recording than when I’m actually performing. Argh. It’s hot again. Only a week left in September and I’m wishing there were two more.
Went to see a performance of Radio Rodia on Sunday. It’s a puppet opera about the Watts Towers. If that clip seemed strange, I promise it was much stranger in person. But it was also captivating. Does that sound dramatic? I was locked in watching the whole time and I left wishing it had gone on longer. The writer/performer is Peter Yates, a (retired) professor of music at CPP. His work has always been on that surreal/absurdist vibe. It’s the sort of creativity that kinda scares me because I have zero idea how he comes up with it xD Like, if I wanted to copy him I dunno where I’d start. Maybe it’s supposed to be that way? So yeah, shout out to Yates.
He asked if I had any music to send him. A few RPM Challenges ago, I sampled his song Diva Cat (I think I’ll take these pills/And then they’ll care…). I’ll send him the beat and see what he thinks haha. Anyways, this week needs to be about wrapping up Practice Hours! I’ll hold myself to it.
