And we’re off!
RPM officially started yesterday and I’m hitting the ground running thanks to DJ Pain 1; something about his beats just inspire me. Found dude on YouTube about a year ago and have been following him ever since. He’s actually the first person I’ve leased beats from; hell, he produced two of the beats from Practice Hours. I started expanding to other producers on Beatstars (shout out to DevKeys) and things have been flowing ever since. Most beats with a “Kid Cudi” tag get my mind going. If you’ve followed me for any amount of time (*crickets*) you’ll know he’s one of my biggest inspirations and it feels like now I’m channeling the more hip-hop side of his music. Between these two producers, I have about ten leased beats that I’m still sitting on, so this year’s RPM has a solid foundation to it.
I started writing to this beat yesterday and already have a full demo finished. Two verses and a hook, just like that. Felt amazing! That said, the biggest challenge will be juggling this challenge with the rest of life. But I guess that’s the point, right? My personal life has been kicking my ass for a second now and I’m hoping things will look up long enough for me to express what I’ve been feeling. Besides beats, I’ve kept a running list of phrases/possible song titles to draw inspiration from. Some of the standouts:

Some of them came from the Titular Generator (opened this up and got “Taste the Poetry” *adds to list*) and some popped into my head; I was watching football when I thought about of a Drake-ish song about the route tree (Slant N Go).
But enough spoilers! This little backlog is gonna be my secret weapon this year so I don’t go into this blind. I’ve got some work to do! Stay up, y’all.

This was in Stepbrothers (one of my favorite movies), but it’ll always remind me of my first trip to Kenya. It was around the time this album dropped and my cousin played the HELL out of it while I was there.
